Cookie Policy

This is a short policy because there is very little to declare: this site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads no third-party trackers. Here is exactly what that means, and what the server records anyway.

This is a short policy because there is very little to declare: this site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads no third-party trackers. Here is exactly what that means, and what the server records anyway.

01The short version

This website sets no cookies. There is no analytics platform, no advertising pixel, no heatmap tool, no session recorder, no chat widget and no social media embed anywhere on it.

That is why you have not been shown a consent banner. Under both POPIA and the ePrivacy rules that inform GDPR practice, consent is required for non-essential cookies and similar technologies, and there are none here to consent to.

02What cookies are, briefly

A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website, usually to remember something between page loads: that you are logged in, what is in your basket, or which pages you have visited so that behaviour can be measured.

Related technologies include local storage, session storage, tracking pixels and browser fingerprinting. The same principle applies to all of them: they store or read information on your device.

03What this site actually uses

  • Cookies: none, of any kind, first-party or third-party.
  • Local and session storage: not used.
  • Tracking pixels and web beacons: not used.
  • Third-party embeds such as YouTube, Vimeo, Google Maps or social feeds: not used. Links to external sites open in a new tab and load nothing until you click.
  • Fonts: self-hosted and served from this domain, so no request is made to Google Fonts or any other font provider when you visit.
  • Images: stored and served from this domain.

04What is recorded regardless

The hosting provider keeps standard server logs, as effectively every web server does. These typically record the requesting IP address, the time of the request, the URL requested, the response status and the browser user agent.

These logs exist for security, abuse prevention and debugging. They are not used to profile visitors, are not combined with any other data set, and are rotated by the host on a short cycle, usually within 90 days.

05The forms on this site

The enquiry form and the journal subscription field do not submit data to a server. They assemble the information you have typed into a pre-filled message and hand it to your own email application.

Nothing is stored on this website at any point, and no information reaches me unless you personally press send in your mail client. Once you do, the resulting email is handled as described in the Privacy Policy.

06If this ever changes

If analytics or any other technology that stores information on your device is ever introduced, this page will be updated before it goes live, a proper consent mechanism will be added, and nothing non-essential will load until you have actively agreed to it.

Any such change would be dated at the top of this page so you can see when it happened.

07Controlling cookies generally

Although there is nothing to block here, every major browser lets you review, block and delete cookies from its privacy settings, and offers a mode that discards them at the end of each session.

Blocking cookies broadly will not affect anything on this site, since it does not depend on them for any function.
